Hello My Name is Jan

Hi jan , sorry to,hear you are having an awful time ....but welcome ...
Yes I can only agree about stress being a hugh factor ....it has been said it can cause diabetes in some cases ???there can of course be many causes ...
Baking , awful when you bake and can't eat ..have you looked at low carb and low or no sugar baking ...you might be able to have a bit of a treat then ...;)
It does not bother me Kat I do not have a sweet tooth but what I did find out today is that my nephew who drives a taxi also has type 2 and his doc blamed it on the stress of the job. Guess I will have to deal with what comes.

Hi,jan , do you like fruit and cream ...that is a nice treat ...you have to look after yourself ...and your husband ...
Goodness stress is such a big factor , not talked enough about I sometimes think ...
Type 2 often does run in families .....I have both types in mine ...
Yes deal with what comes , but make sure you look after yourself ....
My walking really helps my stress levels ....I sweat a lot , another problem , so I look the part like I have had a real work out ...
But getting out with elements does give me the feel good good factor ...I have to make the effort though ...
Today I walked in the city near me , so,tomorrow it is my country walk ...I will like that .... Take care , best wishes ..Kat

That's a shame for your nephew, but now you have a buddy to chivvy each other on.
How are you doing since you realised you weren't taking the right dose of meds? Have your levels improved?
Is there anything we can do to help as regards a better diet?

I do have a treat every day, fresh coffee with a little cream. had some good news today, my husbands radiotherapy starts on the 24th so at least that is a forward move.

Hi Jan, it sounds like you're dealing with a lot at the moment, but it seems like you're finding a way forward. Just keep plodding on and you'll get there :)

Welcome to the forum x

Hi Louise,
Wow that is some weight loss congratulations, my Doc tried metaformin a while back but it had such a bad effect on me we have had to go with the other medication. I would not be surprised if I ended up on the injectable insulin , not looking forward to that as I have a thing about needles.

Thank you all so much forr your advice and warm welcomes .

Well, the last check had actually gone up , but I have been told that it could take some time to come down .

Thanks Jan, I'm still trying to find balance with the food but I think I'm getting there. Only another goodness knows how many pounds to go...

I don't inject insulin, but I have done my own injections before and the insulin needles really don't hurt in my opinion. Put it this way, I think the finger pricks hurt a lot more than the injections. Have you ever seen the size of an insulin needle? They're really very fine. i suppose, if you did move onto that, there would be a learning curve, but I think you'd get used to it in time x

When the nurse comes to give my Husband his injections they test his blood with a machine an then adjust the dose, it has worked for him as his sugar levels are really low. And he can pretty much eat what he wants. We do enjoy wine with our dinner and I asked about that they said wine was not a problem, it is the carbs and stress which are the problem.

Although wine does contain sugar, so regardless of what the nurse says, do you think wine could affect your blood glucose? Logically, I'm thinking it will. Of course, I'm not saying don't have it, but like all sugars and carbs, watch the amount :)

There are very few carbs in red wine.
A 250ml glass of an average dry red wine has 1 carb but 170 calories, so great for anyone not needing to lose weight. (according to my book Carbs & Cals) The alcohol keeps the liver occupied, so it dumps less glucose whilst the alcohol is in the system.

A bit better news this morning, the diabetes nurse tested me and in a week my sugar has gone down from 265 to 203 . It does not sound much but small baby steps. Going to see my Doc tomorrow morning for a check in,:)

Good news for you jan ...you are doing something good .. :)
Have a really nice weekend by the way ...Kat
Things do seem to be going in the right direction, My Doc gave me a tip, do something to distract yourself from Davids health problems , it will help you psychologically and give yourself something to focus on. So I have decided to pick up tapestry again. ♥ Jan
