Good Morning, I am 69 year old female, married with 2 English Cocker Spaniel puppies. I live in Florida, I’m retired. i Have 4 siblings that have been diabetics for a number of years of I’m the last. I want to try and hold off diabetes with diet and exercise, but it’s difficult my doctor will not send me to a dietician so I’m stumbling in the dark. Would really appreciate some advice about diet.

Hi Cheyenne321 and welcome.

The key thing as you know is to lower your blood glucose levels and keep them low. Many of us here have ahd a lot of success with a low-carb approach. In my case this meant reducing my daily carb intake to around 20 grams - about as much as there is in one apple. I don't (eg) eat bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, fruit, or sugar, and I realised recently that I don't eat any highly processed food.

I'd strongly recommend getting hold of a glucose meter and testing before and after meals to see how well your system copes with the carbs in whatever it was you ate.

Apart from that, have a read around on the forum - there's a "Success Stories" section that will give you some examples of what can be achieved.

Best wishes
