Hello and welcome to the forum
No, no dont get depressed, these things can be sorted, you know I dare say all of us felt like you do at the moment, in the beginning you are just so confused, worried, and experience just about every emotion there is. But it will get better I promise.
You made a good move already by coming here, you will find everyone is so caring and friendly and will be trying their best to help you. Its also so good to hear that you have started testing, this way you will learn how the different food affects you and so you will find out whether you need to reduce or cut out certain foods altogether. I would advise you to get hold of Collins Gem carb counting booklet, to start reading food labels for carb content and also get hold of Dr Charles Clark book The Diabetes Revolution, its very easy to read, there are some other really good books but it takes a while to get stuck into them, so probably best wait till you are more familiar with the whole issue of diabetes. Do not worry, you can live a perfectly healthy life as a diabetic, you can avoid developing complications, they key to this is basically that you achieve non diabetic bg levels, exercise, relaxation and what you eat. Read around the forum, but dont try to do too much in one go, there is so much info around and you want to avoid information overload.
First can you tell us what medication you are taking, what you are eating and what your readings are like?
All the best
Karen
