Really glad to have come across this site...was diagnosed as a Type 1 late 2008 and haven't really belonged to any diabetes forum or community , so yeeey!!!! feel at home already. I have read a couple of threads from here so far and must say I have soaked up quite an amount of knowledge which is fantastic for a newby like myself.
When I was diagnosed, doctor's advice was law to me...I followed it to the book, low on carbs, lotsa veg, used to jog, constant monitoring of my levels hence my blood sugar levels were on point in no time. Sadly however, over the last year or so I have severely lapsed in the all the above...must say I was in some sort of comfort zone or make believe scenario convincing my-self that my beta cells had sort of woken up...Nway point is reality has sort of shaken me up from this limbo and I have SERIOUSLY DECIDED TO GET MY ACT TOGETHER back to what I was at the beginning of my diagnosis. I am really working on reducing my carbs. and currently trying to figure why my sugar levels seem high after waking up in the morn. (is it the dawn phenomenon or the somogyi effect??)
All in all, figured belonging to a community of like minded individuals will be a big boost to more healthy living..... :)

Hi Nell and welcome to the forum, you have come to the right place! I think its human nature to lapse after having been so good, I did exactly the same. I stuck religiously to the NHS rules at first and lost 1.5 stone but I was motivated by fear and you can only be afraid for so long. I think rather than blithely doing what you are told by the Doc, its much better to come to an informed decision about how to manage your diabetes and to follow your own rules.

Good luck with getting back on track, your determination will serve you well!

Thanks Fraddycat...much appreciated it's awesome getting support and knowing there is loads of people out there who have gone through the same experience, and yes I have done loads of personal research on diabetes and understand much better now why my body acts like it does feels better being in control rather than under constant fear.....
