Hi and welcome to team D.
I believe it is a case of not going back to how you used to eat on a daily basis.
so remission rather then cure, though others do make a persuasive argument for cure..
i think its all very much semantics... and how we personally see the 'evidence'
as for the cruise, it is along way off, and by then you should, as mentioned have a much better idea of the foods YOU can handle well and those you should perhaps avoid.
having said that..i recently spent time in india and with the curries rice and breads, was a little concerned about how i would fare.
I have been LCHF since nov, after dipping a toe in and finding it helpful i then proceeded to follow others in this WOE.
(probably run at 40/60 grams a day of carbs..just to frame the next part )
On arrival in india i tested regularly the first week with the intention of relaxing my diet as ..well i was on HOLIDAY.
However , i found that the spikes i was expecting never really came.
I ate minimal rice, but did eat many bread types/flours, nan, roti, plain breads handmade on premises, samosas, etc
i also drank beers/vodka daily..(been tea total pretty much since DX)
The best i could make out is .
* foods here are much more processed then there
* the months i spent low carbing have depleted my 'sugar bowl' allowing me the luxury of refilling without too much issue
* The flours/ingredients there aren't so adulterated by the pesticides and chemicals we use over here in the west.
i imagine it is probably a combo of them all.
i did feel quite blessed and lucky that i could step out of this LOW CARB skin for a few weeks.
I enjoy eating this way at home, but in a foreign country where things don't fall so easily to hand about carb content etc, did worry me, so like i say blessed it all seemed to work out well for me.
Ship side, sure much will be processed to 'keep' better but maybe not too much.
fresh foods, much like you eat at home will be available, but i'd say do as i did, try a little of what you fancy ..
test as you do here.
it might be a no..or it might be the same as me..good to go ..(for a short while at least)
Good luck until then.
regards.
