Hello everyone

I’m not diabetic but my husband is. He’s been diagnosed (Type 2) for over 22 years, always well controlled with Metformin but over the last 4 months he’s lost well over a stone and significant muscle loss. His Hb1ac was 149 yesterday after being around 50 18 months ago. At first his weight loss was intentional but no longer. We went to see GP and he is having further bloods ie amylase and an urgent abdominal scan. He feels not unwell which is a surprise really. We’re obviously worried and no one can offer reassurance but just wanted to share.

Thanks

Hi @Sugarysweet57 and husband, welcome to the forum.

I would ask for a C-peptide test as well to see how much insulin he's producing.

Good luck!

I have just seen this post, I too had a very high Hba1c reading of 129 after starting metformin ( and havine very bad side effects) I was sent for a CT scan on abdomen which came back as clear, I asked to go on insulin due to the severe side effect I was having from the metformin (now am on Toujeo insulin and 2 slow release Metformin a day) Still get the occasional side effects now waiting for my next Hba1c in August

Hello hope you’re doing ok. My husband’s T2 is back under control and was within a few weeks once the situation was assessed. He has however remained on the lowest dose of Gliclazide as well as Metformin and is due a review this week. When he saw the diabetic nurse last year she was very reassuring and highlighted how the complications of diabetes have much reduced in the population due to better control. Hope all goes well in August. Best wishes
