I've been lurking on this forum for a while now and have found it to be a goldmine of useful information and it's refreshing to see lots of people who don't blindly follow the NHS guidance which is decades out of date IMO, especially with regards to diet. Thank you for that.
I was diagnosed with prediabetes in Sept 2020 with A1c of 46. This was bad news for me as my mother was T2 for many years until it eventually got her due to kidney failure. I have a family history of diabetes and hypertension. I didn't want either of those conditions to get me, so I decided to take action. My GP offered the NHS programme, which seemed a waste of time so I changed my diet and got my weight down from 84Kg to 80Kg in about 5 months by doing intermittent fasting (skipping breakfast) on weekdays. I lost weight rapidly at first but then hit a plateau and it started to creep up again, however my A1c as of May 2021 was down to 41, which was good news. I'd still like to get to my ideal weight of 74Kg and reduce A1c further, so I recently started the Michael Moseley 800 calorie diet. After less than a week and already my FBG is coming down (5.2 this morning) and my blood pressure is lower than it has been for years (I'm on medication for that also). I intend to keep on this diet until I hit my target weight and also will hopefully be able to reduce/eliminate the blood pressure meds.
I have a few birthday celebrations coming up which will involve drinking, eating cake etc. I don't want to be a killjoy and not get involved but I don't want to wreck my progress either. Any advice on how to deal with these situations?
