Thought i'd come and join you now. Have been reading posts for a couple of days. My name's Claire and i was diagnosed with Type 2 approx 3 years ago. I was started on diet and exercise and then put on Metformin. The Metformin didn't agree with me so as i'd lost weight, i was put back on D&E.
Just before Christmas, i had what i thought was a chest infection. I also couldn't eat properly. I went to the Dr and was given anti biotics. After 2 hrs at home i realised i was getting worse so phoned NHS direct. They got an ambulance for me and i was admitted to hospital with DKA and Pneumonia. Was on oxygen for 3 days and various drips including insulin. I was taken off the insulin and put on Gliclazide. I've just had my dose upped to 120mg twice a day and am waiting for an appointment with a consultant to see if i can have Byetta or need insulin as my HBA1C was 17 :shock: :shock: |They know part of the reason it's so high is because of the infection.
