Your question about insulin resistance though - yes, many T2 people do take insulin. And T2 is often characterised as being associated with insulin resistance (although the original cause of the insulin resistance is the subject of some debate). Increasing the amount of insulin can overcome at least some of the resistance, but can also further contribute to increasing insulin resistance at the same time.
The key thing is probably that insulin resistance is not an off/on thing - it's more gradual.
