Hello to all. I don’t know if I’m in the right place for this comment but here goes. I have been fortunate to be prescribed Mounjaro on the NHS. My H1 refused to budge from about 17 and the Mounjaro dragged it down to the pre-diabetic range in six months. I remain on Metformin time release and Gliclicide. As an elderly man with an enlarged prostate I have found for two days after each injection my prostate is aggravated and peeing is very difficult. Then that clears and I have relief until the next injection. Constipation is also a problem and dealt with in a variety of ways. Overall I think the Mounjaro is good but I’ve lost very little weight. The nurse said that getting my sugar down was the priority, not weight loss. Not everyone loses much weight on a drug that was originally developed for BG control. My appetite is certainly far less and I’m not interested in snacking any more. Exercise may be a factor, but with balance issues and limited mobility it is challenging to move as much as I think I should do. I hope these comments are useful. Incidentally I’ve read elsewhere here about people who are type 2 taking insulin. Am I not right in thinking that type 2 comes about through insulin resistance? So how will taking insulin help? I had a hospital experience where I wasn’t allowed to take my usual medications but was given insulin. They could not fathom why my BG did not respond.

Hello and welcome.

i have no relevant personal experience of diabetic medication, so I'll leave that to others.

Your question about insulin resistance though - yes, many T2 people do take insulin. And T2 is often characterised as being associated with insulin resistance (although the original cause of the insulin resistance is the subject of some debate). Increasing the amount of insulin can overcome at least some of the resistance, but can also further contribute to increasing insulin resistance at the same time.

The key thing is probably that insulin resistance is not an off/on thing - it's more gradual.

I’m a type 2 and take insulin. It is the only medication/approach I have tried which has brought my HbA1c down to reasonable levels. Even a very low carb diet did not work for me.
