Hello,
My names Loren and i'm 18, Been diagnosed with type 1 since 12! I've basically joined because i am VERY badly controlled, and i don't no any other diabetics! I'd like a friend i can talk to about it any age, any gender! I cant talk to my mum and partner about my diabetes without them raging at me or getting upset, So i thought that maybe if i joined a forum i could get to no someone and talk about the things that play on my mind! As i don't no anyone on here it wont effect them like it does my family! I'm struggling with this and deep down i'm scared but i can't tell my family this! Please someone reply and help me out!

Hello Robert72 :)
I wish i wasn't going through them teenage years, as i'm scared that its gunna effect me sooner rather than later  I was fine with my diabetes until i went on an adventure week with diabetesUK, there the other diabetics were pretending to take there insulin! I went on this when i was 13 and 5 years have passed and I've kind of stuck to that habit! It also doesn't help that I'm terrified of needles STILL :?

hi everyone
there apears to be an increasing amount of teenagers and young adults still having issues with their diabetes. its worrying and frightening. i have a daughter who is 12 and t1 18mths. she knows she has it as makes her feel ill when bs hi! but doesnt believe its for life and needs to be controlled. we tried mdi eat what you want just inject. hmmmm just!!!!!. now on novomix 30 and controlling carbs. seens more acceptavle to her.

but what worries me is something must be going wrong somewhere. rhere needs to be a different clinic for the inbetweeners from the kids to adult ckinics. honesty with your team and or peers is the best policy. YES it.s worrying for family to have a diabetic child never mind their age but we want you to suceed in anything they want to do. compromise is the only way with the team and diabetic. perhaps we need to have more group work with this age group xx

Hi Loren

Terrified of needles doesn't help  did you ever think about going on a pump?

You'd have to straighten yourself out first for a bit, but it would be far fewer holes ;)

Hello elainechi :)
I'm sorry to hear about your daughter getting it at a young age also! My consultant started me on novomix 30 when i was first diagnosed! I agree with the amount of teenagers and young adults having problems with it! It's not an illness that's easy to grasp! Feeling fine one minute then ****** the next! It does drive me up the wall! I find me and my mum argue about it quiet a lot :( I miss being with the children s clinic they helped a lot with things, the adult clinic don't really give a toss to be honest! But what would they care there not the one's with diabetes are they :/ xx

Hello again :)
My blood sugars and constantly in there twenty's at the moment and my hba1c is currently at 13.9... I think it would take quiet a while for me to even be able to consider a pump :/ Hahaa yes could do with a fewer holes! My legs are bruised badly :(

loren janes hba1c was 12.8 on mdi. had been on novamix30 previously. bs 20/30s. went back to novamix 30 to basically start again. dropped carbs to 150g a day. no pots rice or pasta with only waffles and crisp breads instead of bread. 17 day later hba1c 10.1 jane was eating all the time and not injecting. now she has ti have snacks but doesn.t want them now hypo hypo hypo so needing a bit of adjustment. i lower carb as well and enjoy the extra cheese cream nuts etc. have lost weight too. so its possible to get some control. as for arguments we have plenty and yes mostly about have you tested. have you injected but its only twice a day x

Ohh kids ehh! I can't live without carbs :( Although i have lost my apatite lately and even though i'm not eating as much my BS don't seem to lower :/ i can see it's hard for your daughter and was for me at that age, but i'm now! i'm an adult and i should no better! The thought of what could happen to me scares the life out of me! I red a story on here about a woman who's husband has died at age 29 because he didn't look after himself! That's only 11 years away for me and that's to early to go in life, I've also recently been informed that i'm loosing my sight, i want to be able too see my children grow up when i have them, i need to get a grip of this now before its too late! but i can't bring myself to do it :/ xx
