Hi all I'm a type 1 diabetic diagnosed 35 years ago. My control has been very erratic with unexplained highs and many hypos which is not a good way to live. So I have been referred to my hospital diabetes clinic and been assessed for a pump. This is something I am sure I will need support with so decided to join you lovely lot and hopefully you may be able to answer any questions I have:)

Hopefully we can help - and not just with your pump Qs. I've learnt so much more via this site in the last 12 months than I ever did in the previous 36 years!
 
It was only after I moaned to my GP about my HbA1C result which was 10.2 that there had to be a better way to control blood glucose he said oh they do a course at the hospital and you could consider a pump. That course opened my eyes I learnt a lot from that and now thanks to this forum I am learning a lot more.
 
I have been on a pump since November 2012 and it was the best thing I ever decided to do. Of course, I got mine when I was in Australia as my health care team in the UK prior to moving to Oz wouldn't give me a pump, despite having high HbA1c levels in the 12's for years! I hated doing the MDI's as my evening injection really hurt and left a lump on my thigh which meant my insulin wasn't being absorbed fully. So, when I was placed on an insulin pump I felt like a new woman! No more daily injection, only a cannular insertion every three days, which I don't mind at all. It's just great and my control is so much better now. Good luck with your pump. It will become your new best friend! It is hard work in the beginning so keep with it. The first 6 weeks was the hardest for me but I got loads of support from my team. M x
