Hi and welcome,
I can sympathise with you about the meds. I have been on Metformin 500 mg x 2 daily for about five weeksand in the beginning felt quite **** with unpleasant tummy episodes. I also felt very tired and could have slept around the clock. My tummy has nowsettled and I have hardly any symptoms at all. Mind you I think I have a touch of IBS so the occasional twinge may be due to that... I found that my appetite also diminished and even now I have to force myself to eat something but then I welcome the weight loss.
My energy levels have increased a lot since I cut 95 % of all starchy carbs and processed foods off my diet. I don't get afternoon slumps anymore and getting out of bed is a load easier too. All I did was cut out pasta, rice, potatoes and bread from my diet and increased meats, fish and nuts with veg and I seem to be maintaining non diabetic blood sugars now. I still have an occasional treat but find that a starchy meal now gives me heartburn so I generally don't even fancy one now. But regardless of your appetite you must try and eat 3 meals a day. If you feel you can't manage a full meal, try a handful of nut or seeds, chunk of cheese or a salad with chicken or tuna. It would be good if you could measure your sugars so you would find out how different food affect your sugars. Some people here find they are ok with sugarfree wholegrain cereal and complex carbs but some people get massive sugar spikes.
Honestly it may seem like a mountain to be conquered but do a lot of reading and ask a load of uestions and you'll be fine!!
