Hi all,

My name is Karen. I was diagnosed as border line type 2 diabetes the beginning of this year which has developed into the full blown personality. I tried following the recommended diabetic diet - practically same as what they teach in Cardiac rehab... should have known better than to trust it!!

My Doc advised that finger pricking was not necessary as the three month blood test would be an indication....... Yeah, I learned the hard way from that bit of advice too and have started taking reading before & 2 hours after meals, have also been reading up on the GI index and load, taken myself off of all shop bought bread and make sough dough as a one slice treat with my eggs for breki. No potatoes, no pasta, no rice and I am feeling much more alert, energised without them. It is a breath of fresh air to read that others have also taken the low carb route and benefiting from it, I'm obviously on the right track!

My user name indicates that I suffer from another long term disorder, OCD = Obsessive Camera Disorder :)

Hi Karen and welcome to the forum.

You have learnt two important lessons already - do not eat the generalised NHS Healthy Plate diet, and ignore your GP when he says testing is not necessary. Well done for grasping this disease by the neck and taking control.

Hello.
Welcome to reality!
Just being nosy ... which end of the camera?

Jackthelad - behind the lens works well for me;)

Bluetit - oh yeah, at least I feel I'm on the right track, especially after reading others dietary explorations and results. Which, makes sense.

There's a hobbies thread knocking about somewhere with some photographers in there ....posting some of their art too.

Ah, somebody with a sense of humour, I could have fun with you LOL

Congrats on finding out the usual NHS advice is pants. Luckily I figured that out very quickly thanks to the folk here - hopefully I'll stay prediabetic (or even normal!) for avery long time!
