does anybody have any suggestions on how to move with pet rats. It is 3 hours drive away.

Put them in a cage ? and carry them
Their cage is huge and not sure if it is too big for car but travel box is very small. Just wondered if anybody else has done this.

Sorry, Can't help. My Collie loves tossin' Rat Bastids(She's a very farm collie)

Travle crate for small dogs should be ok .. Was you planning for them to travle together or separately?
Have you spoken to your vet, some vets can loan travle crates to owners. I think exhibiton bird crates would work if they were to travle apart, as it has sections in. If you needed to improvise .. How about a draw with avery wire sheets to cover the open top . Use the whole sheet .. Cut up the corners of the draw and Fold over the sides and fasten safely round the sides ...
Hope you have a safe move:)

Put them both together to limit trauma factor.

:stop:That's just mean! :bag:Millie and Tillie are very sweet and snuffily and we love them very much.

I love rats as pets .. Don't have any at the moment :(
I would give thought about a smallish draw if you have one as it will have the right smell ... Avery wire is great and you can buy it in smallish sheets .. And cover the draw in the wire with the top of the draw covered in one peice ... Then add soft blanket in the draw for them to nestle into ... The sides of the mess can be tied under the draw ..
Or how about a harness for each of them with a passenger in the back with them on their lap ! That may work!

Hope you all have a safe trip :)

You can get a small pet carrier for about a tenner from pet shops or online.
I once sent a guinea pig for vet treatment by Fedex overnight travel in one, over 200 miles. He was fine. Made a nice bed of hay and put in cucumber so would not be needing water to drink.

We have a small carrier. It was the water issue so may do that with cucumber! Millie has just bitten me which is completely out of character! Ouch! :(

Three hours travelling they should be ok. Or you could always stick your hand in from time to time to let them have their fluid intake from your blood. :woot:

Get a small plastic carrier and put some food and bedding in. I had pets rats and we took them in the car for a few hours and they were fine, put them on your knee though.

Re drinks - had to fly my previous two puppies back from N Ireland and the breeder put ice cubes in their drink bowl so that there wasn't too much water slosh, but I do like the cucumber idea.

Would covering up whatever you decide on for their travel cage possibly help on the journey - as in dark=sleepy time?

I can't offer any solutions, but the small carrier sounds sensible. All I can say is - don't we have a diverse range of subject of the forum? :)
