Hi everyone, I really need some help at the moment, I will briefly document what is happening for me at the moment.
1. I have been type 2 for 15 years and treated with medication gliclazide, I have tried low carb and my figures did go down.
2. I was diagnosed with gallstones 3 years ago and waiting for an operation since then, twice cancelled, last reason my figures were 78 and need to be below 68 (March 2023)
3. First of all my gliclazide was increased to 4 a day, my figures increased
4. I was put on insulin 10 days ago 12 units pre breakfast and 8 units before evening meal, my figures increased again before breakfast 11.1 - this is more than when i was on gliclazide
5. my insulin was increased to 16 units before breakfast 2 days ago and 8 before evening meal, this morning they have gone up again 11.5
6. I am walking 7000 to 10000 steps per day, doing mindfulness to bring down my stress levels, my diet yesterday: break: kippers and one slice toast; mid morning a banana; lunch tomato soup slice of toast; mid afternoon bananna; dinner chicken, roasted veg and 2 very small new potatoes and a pot of jelly.

I have stuck rigedly to a good diet, exercise and mindfulness. I am really struggling, I hate doing my blood tests as I have an expectation that my numbers will be down, but they keep going up when I increase medication. I am on a time limit as well as I have to have my op within 6 months or I go back to the bottom of the list and after 3 years wait and increased pain I couldn't bear that.

What am I doing wrong? the only other thing that could be affecting my bloods is that I take one propanalol per day, I don't know whether this makes a difference. any advice please would be very much appreciated. Many thanks Susan

You mention having tried low carb and it working... So why not go back to that? Banana's are very high in carbs, toast, (most) jelly's and potatoes too. Soup potentially so. Your diet is very carb heavy, so while you don't seem to eat a whole lot, the things you do eat are quite spike-inducing. Keep in mind that if you ditch the carbs while on insulin and/or gliclazide, you are likely to hypo, so keep a really, really good eye on your blood sugars. A CGM might be of help as you're in a rush to get your levels down, to be on the safe side.

Stick mostly with low carb foods, like meat, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy, like hard cheese and full fat cream. Above ground veg and leafy greens, (some) nuts, olives, that kind of thing. https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html might help. Just please, please keep in mind that if you take out all carbs at the level of medication you're at now, you will likely faceplant with a hypo. So do be careful and check your blood sugars all the time.

Hugs,
Jo

Not fully up on my meds but isn't Glic the one that forces your pancreas to release more insulin.
Perhaps after 15 years your beta cells have become taxed, or your insulin resistance has increased.
Nowadays Semaglutides like Ozempic seem a much better option.

Oh & watch those bananas, I've seen non-diabetics spike high on them.
