Hi @nomoreporridge and welcome to the forum. I do know what you are going through. I believe that I have lived with this condition for about twenty years plus. And it is about hypos and what to do to stay hypo free. You are right it is very rare and its about the reaction to food you cannot tolerate certain foods such as carbs and sugar. Most doctors just follow the advice as prescribed by the NICE NHS book. I was told to eat healthy low GI complex carbs as you have been told to do. Porridge was my breakfast and thanks to this healthy carb, I started the day with spikes and lows. It was before diagnosis what would have been fatal by now! If you do have RH, healthy carbs, low GI will still cause a reaction. It is the food but something you don't know have hidden ingredients that will also spike and cause the insulin overshoot which will force you into hypo levels. And yes, you don't have to spike to have a reaction, it all depends on your body and how it copes with these foods. How we're you diagnosed? A cgm is a great idea, especially combined with a food diary, in which you can record, what you eat and the results from the cgm. It is not about calories, it is not about being diabetic, it is not GI foods, it is not exercise, though it does help. It is, if you have RH, what triggers the reactive part of your body's hormonal response. I am not diabetic, my fasting levels are always in normal levels, my hba1c levels are 37, (normal) How did I do this? Very, very, very low carb diet, intermittent fasting, walking, portions control, upping good natural fats, fresh meat and vegetables, no alcoholic drinks, no fizzy drinks, cook everything yourself and the most important is, discover which food you cannot tolerate. Keep the condition under control through diet and like me, stay in Keto. Read about the condition in our forum. Best wishes.
