Ok. A recap,

Diagnosed I dunno 5 years ago.
Got it under control with low carb and excercise
When running i'd go a little low at 3mmol eat sweets cos it scared me and come home high like 10 plus
For a variety of reasons including sever depression\anxiety borderline psychosis, my Mum passing away, leaving my career as a mental health nurse etc I lost control of my diet and in fact went stupid with my diet....i,e anything went into my mouth.....chocolate, doughnuts, high carb ****.

Anyway, I have tried recently with low carb with very little result. I'm averaging 15mmol in the morning and the lowest I get to is 10. I'm running again but only low mileage as ofcourse I have lost fitness.

I have tried to be more plant based and really want to do this as meat makes me feel sick.

I also enjoy cycling and will get back to this soon.

Anyway..........has anyone else experienced great difficulty in lowering sugar? My GP wants me on some new drug but I looked at side effects and they are horrendous so won't take them. I'm on Metformin 2g b.d twice a day.

Any advice? Motivation needed. Getting desperate which makes me feel sad, so guess what I do? Eat ****.

Hi BigBasset
I have been type 2 for over 10 years and slowly the medication has increased - now on metformin 500mg tablets x4 /day, Januvia (sitaglyptin) 100mg x 1/d and gliclazide x 1/d.
I have been trying hard to get around 6 hours of sleep, latest eating food to be around 5 - 6pm and morning eating around 9am to allow ketosis to happen. I try to keep the evening meal light and small, does not always work but I try.
I would suggest you push yourself to go for a brisk walk, either one long one, or several short ones, ideally daily or as a minimum once a week. For the food, I would try to control what and how much you are eating. Try to go for lots of salady type combinations, mix it up, add some cottage cheese, different sauces for flavours, perhaps spice it up a little. Anything to get some variety so that you stick with it.
Yes, cutting down on the carbs will help and having a friend or buddy with you on the journey will also help, to motivate you and to keep your mind off the food.
I hope this helps.

Hi. I suspect you currently have high insulin resistance and this can take a while to fade as you go back to low-carb. There are other drugs including Gliclazide which may help. This one is more for those with a failing pancreas rather than 'classic' T2. Yes, have as much exercise as you can in conjunction with the low-carb.

I walk dogs daily. I'm back to running and weights. I guess I'm just not very patient.

Cheers all
