I have had diabeties now for 22 years and have had good control until now. I have had a hard time medically and this was made worse during a mistake during surgery however my diabeties could be relied upon to be brought under control quickly. However I am at my wits end trying to get it sorted this time. I was started on medication to stop my remaining ovary working and put me into menopause - not pleasant but necessary. It has had the worst affect on my blood sugar levels which are now fluctuating between 2.6 and 28mmols before a meal instead of my usual 3.5 to 7mmols. My eating or exercise has not changed any and apart from the expected side effects of the medication I am doing nothing different. Anyone with any suggestions of why this is happening or what I could do?

Hi Applesmiles,

So sorry that you are having a rough time. I am not sure why this is happening, perhaps it would be a good idea to see either your GP or DN ? You have been so well controlled up to now, keep it up.:):)

hi welcome,

i am massively underqualified and underknowledged to even guess sorry, hopefully someone will be able to help

Do the tablets you are taking have any diabetic comments in the contra indications?
If not though l suspect it is because ovaries and pancreas are connected to endocrine, knocking one off a cliff would have a knock on effect. l would ask to see either the Dr asap and then a specialist referral or if from a specialist go back see them.

I agree with Mud Island Dweller , you need to speak to an endocrinologists

Thanks for the replies. I'm having difficulty getting my consultants to talk to each other as they only seem interested in "their bit". DN suggested not monitoring blood levels as my medication doesn't change and my yearly review is at the end of this month so they can check if there has been any damage. The injections I am getting can only be given for 6 months so it seems that I might have a 6 month rollercoaster to deal with. Worried about "damage" as I've been very lucky so far.
