So this is my second post as my 1st seems to have disappeared! Anyway, I am pregnant and had gtt as I had gd in previous pregnancy. At clinic appointment I was told my high readings indicated type 2, however when she had a look at my records she said I have had type 2 since previous pregnancy and my doctors haven't picked up on it after 3 blood tests even tho my results were 6.5 6.5 and 6.8! So I am feeling confused! I was told all 3 times that my results were normal, are my doctors at fault and have missed the diagnosis? Should I put I complaint in? Thanks for reading

I assume you are talking about your A1C % results? If so, that is diagnostic of type 2 diabetes (greater than or equal to 6.5%). They should have picked up on that. Likely your doctors dismissed the numbers as they are barely in the diabetic range, but they should have said something. The same thing happened to me. You need to take this seriously and work to get your blood sugar levels lower. You need to get a blood glucose meter and start testing yourself to figure out what your blood glucose levels are throughout the day - in the morning before breakfast, 1 and 2 hours after eating, etc. I doubt a complaint would do much good, but maybe ask your doctors why they failed to recognise that you had A1C levels in the diabetic range.

My A1C was only 6.5%,but I got nerve damage in my feet from my high blood sugar levels. Now it's under control with a low carb high fat diet.

Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I have to see the diabetic team every 2 weeks now throughout my pregnancy so I have been testing my blood sugar and I will be closely monitored as my doctor is expecting me to need insulin within the next few weeks. Im a bit annoyed that the doctors failed to tell me tho as high blood sugar can cause heart defects in babies so I have to have a fetal echo scan next week to check his heart. I'm sure all will be fine tho, my diabetic nurse thinks I have controlled it pretty well even tho I didn't know I had it.

In my opinion (and based on my interweb research), A1C of 6.5 to 6.8 % is not under control. That's too high. Unfortunately, that's not what medical practitioners have been taught. And if it's under control, why would they put you on insulin??

As the pregnancy progresses the more insulin u need, something to do with hormones and the placenta, I dnt quite understand! Already my fasting result is around 9 now and it's around 11 after meals and I'm only 20 weeks pregnant so far.

Wow. I'm surprised your A1C isn't higher. Sounds like they are taking care of you now, though.
