So a year ago, I got a call from my doctor asking me to come in to talk about my annual blood tests. (Due to having Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, I have to take these tests as I am at a high risk of developing Diabetes)
My Hb1ac was 5.3 and I was given the prognosis of Prediabetes and I had to make another appointment with a Diabetic specialist. When I did this, I was told that I had Type 2 Diabetes not Prediabetes and because I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome he decided to put me on Metformin as this also treats PCOS.
I'm really confused to what I have and if I'm taking Metformin just for PCOS or Diabetes aswell because the highest my blood sugar has ever been is 7 mmol non fasting. I've also had random tests and they are always normally in the 5 - 6 mmol non fasting range. Even when I don't take my Metformin my blood sugar levels range between 5.2-6.5 mmol! I just don't know what I have!! Am I Prediabetic or am I full blown type 2?!

Hi maybe your Dr is trying to be pro-active and get you on the right track sooner rather than later but it really does warrant an in depth discussion with your Dr. It would also be best to write down a list of questions that you would like to ask after all it is your health and you have a right to know why certain decisions have been made.
