I was diagnosed Type 2 in April, with Hba1c of 102. I was put on Metformin and Gliclazide, improved my diet, walked every day and got down to 45 last week. But today it all went wrong. I started to feel very shaky and not at all well. Blood sugar was 3.8 so I took a couple of glucose tablets and 15 minutes later it was 6.9. I then at a piece of bread and one and a half hours later it was 9.8 - it hasn't been that high for weeks. I didn't think blood sugar could go that low on Metformin.

3.8 isn't alarmingly low, and bearing in mind meters can be 15% higher or lower, you could have been a tiny bit below that too.

You say on your post, you take Gliclazide. If that is still true, I'd be inclined to believe that is what pushed your bloods lower than usual.

Have you discussed your medication with your Doc or nurse recently? It could be that with an HbA1c of 45, you don't need the Gliclazide, or at least as much of it, any more.

In treating your mild hypo, you took on board quite a bit of carb. When we do that, it can cause a bit of a yo-yo effect for the day. By that, I mean, we go high, then rebound low, and so on. Have your medical advisors advised you how to deal with low numbers?

Thanks. No, the doctor gave me no advice about low numbers, just high numbers., I'm due to go back fairly soon so I'll ask him about my meds.

Is that a worrying level then, it's just on Saturday I had a pre lunch reading of 3.7 I was a bit shocked but was also feeling a little 'odd' and my hands were trembling once I had eaten I was fine and post lunch I was 5.9 I am type 2 on diet control only

It's not at all worrying. The only time for concerns would be for those taking insulin or other drugs which drive the blood scores down. f you feel odd, it probably makes sense to have a cup of tea, just to bring your numbers up a bit, or if it's almost a meal time, then eat that meal.

Like you, I am diet only and I run in the 3s a lot of the time. In fact, right now, I am 3.8, and comfortable. I have no intention of eating anything as I feel fine. I just run at those levels these days. During the night, I quite often go even lower.

Just to reiterate, we are not taking any medication. The OP is taking a drug which drives her bloods down, so she has to be more mindful than you and I.

Relax. It looks like you're doing well.

Thank you, it did worry me at the time as I've never knowingly gone that low but it obviously didn't keep me awake worrying as this is the first time I mentioned it to anyone, many thanks for the reply

I would hope a doctor would give advice about low numbers when prescribing Gliclazide. Just as well the forum is here, then.
