Before breakfast: 6.7 - highest morning reading yet
Breakfast: small bowl of shredded wheat which has never made me go over 7-8 with no medication
Two hours after and with a morning metformin for first time: 12.6!

Even my gtt to diagnose was only 12.

I repeated it in surprise and got 12.7. Hands are clean.

Had a negative ketone urine test last night so don't think its a T1 thing.

So confused :(

Anyone? im terrified of eating anything ever again, what did I do wrong??

Are you maybe coming down with an infection and don't know it yet?
I know infections can cause BG levels to rise. Stress can also cause a rise. Mind it's not just food but lots of things affect BG level.

Have you tested again since then or eaten since breakfast?

You should not stop eating. I remember feeling like that at the beginning and was terrified to have dinner one night as my reading was high. I ate dinner and the reading came down.

It just takes time for your body to adjust and if you don't eat you can end up with hypo symptoms due to low blood glucose levels.

Don't know tealeaves - was the shredded wheat all you had? No fruit or orange juice? If so, worth a trip back to the doctors if you keep getting readings like that. Give it a while first though, and don't stop eating. Just keep testing, and remember that like lots of us T2s you were probably diabetic some time before diagnosis, and would have had those readings for a long time, so don't panic too much now. Just make a note of your readings and the food you ate, ALL of it, and take it to the doctors if things don't change. Obviously, if things go too high, (like over 14 for a couple of tests) then go back sooner.

Hiya

Sorry i went into a panic. Not had a great day!

Don't feel ill, don't have a cold etc. Def didn't eat anything but the cereal, not even a cup of tea!

Went into testing overdrive:

Pre lunch 6.7 - two poached eggs, one slice burgen toast
2.40pm - 6.7
3.20pm - 7.4
3.40pm - 8.1
5pm - 7.2

These are still all a lot higher than I've been getting. but I have been in a total state all afternoon.

Still can't figure out the 12.7. Makes me wonder what's the point in trying so hard if its gonna shoot up anyway.

Tealeaves, try not to stress yourself too much as this can also raise your levels.
Don't beat yourself up about it. You sound as though you are doing all the right things and you will get there, I am sure.
What about doing a bit of exercise-that might help to bring it down. Also, now that you are on 2 metformin per day that might also help but will take a week or two.
Just hang on in there and feel free to rant when it doesn't work out.

Know what you mean, it's like a kick in the teeth when you get that unexpectedly. Sometimes makes me feel down all day. Then you get some good readings, and the world's rosy again! All we can do is try our best. And think what the 12.7 might have been if you hadn't been careful with your food!
