Help me please

Thank you Chris and everyone else, your support really means a lot.
I am getting better day by day, had another MRI scan and all is going well. Still immobile but in 2 weeks I can start walking again.
I have had that many scans and xrays done I am sure I am starting to glow green!!
Friends, family, neighbours and colleagues have ensured that I'll never get bored, in fact in the early days when I was still in so much pain the endless visits seemed too much (how ungrateful can anyone be), I am so looking forward to being able to wash myself and go to the loo on my own, TMI, sorry. But at present I still have a catheter, the fractured spine caused intense swelling and for a while I lost all sensation didn't know when I 'had to go'!!
But all of that is back to normal, there is no dignity after suffering such an injury and it makes you very humble and grateful for all that the nurses and doctors and other ward staff do for you.
I have also had plenty of chances to tell people about low carb/carb reduction for diabetics in particular.
The female in the bed next to me has a daughter diagnosed with ADHD and she has been onkon lowcarb for 3 years and really benefits from it, the diet was recommended by her consultant, so why not also recommend it for diabetics??
I don't understand.
Thank you again to all of you for bothering to write and send good wishes, sending good wishes back to you x x

Whitby Jet ... isn't the internet WONDERFUL? There you are in hospital going through what you're going through, which sounds absolutely awful, and I take my hat off to you for sheer bravery, cos it can't be easy. But there you are managing to communicate with everyone via internet, which only a few years ago would be absolutely unheard of.

It's very interesting to hear about the child with ADHD who's been recommended LC diet, probably because ADHD is a relatively 'new' condition, they're looking at diet more closely, whereas because diabetes has been around for a long time, they tend to keep doing the same old thing without looking at it with fresh eyes.

One of my significant complaints was 'foggy brain' but since I've been low carbing my head feels clear like it did years ago and sometimes I have difficulty switching off now when I go to bed. So God knows what the carb diet has been doing to us all that we didn't realise.

But anyway it's good to know you're doing well and improving day by day and I hope you're getting some rest in between all the comings and goings that go on in the average hospital ward. Best wishes to you for a speedy recovery.

Just a quick update, I have been out of bed first time yesterday and managed to walk around a little
Trouble is that I was expecting too much, naively thought once the fracture healed its a case of getting up and walking away from it all - back to the drawing board on this one roblem:
More physio and walking today, am told it will take another couple of months before I am back to normal where mobility is concerned.

Once again many thanks for your kind messages x x

I do hope you have a swift and complete recovery J, but dont expect too much too soon after two weeks in intensive care it took me a long time to get back to normal, it is surprising how the ability to walk can disappear so quickly when you are incapacitated.

Just build it up slowly, they let me go home once I could walk to the toilet and back with a stick and climb a flight of stairs to prove that I could do so when I got home, but I was very shaky to start off with the first time they got me out of bed I couldnt even support myself in fact I couldnt crush a paper cup after waking up from my intubation lol. I did lots of exercises in bed lifting my knees up to my chest etc as advised by the physio's and little by little the strength returned but it does take time so dont get discouraged just know that you will get back to normal and keep up the exercising.

Good that you've been out of bed Whitby and I can understand your frustration at being unable to do the cartwheels you could do before  but if you think about it - two days ago you couldn't be out of bed at all ... so you're doing really well. It's important not to rush yourself through this early stage tho, but little bit more each day and you'll be back to normal in no time. That wasn't a minor injury you had there. The more patient you are now, the better your recovery will be. Keep on posting.

Good to hear WJ

I briefly returned home today accompanied by an occupational therapist to see how I am going to manage in my home environment, I passed with flying colours and will be discharged from hospital tomorrow YAYYYYYYY

Must say it felt a bit odd to be home after all that time away, I felt a bit like a visitor, amazing how quickly you become institutionalized after just a few weeks in hospital. Am still wobbly, walking with crutches, still a fair bit of pain, but getting stronger day by day.
Cant wait to start cooking and baking again.

Thank you again for your encouragement and support x x
