hello
today is the first day of the rest of my life.
im going shopping later to get some low carb foods, i had a look in tesco's earlier but every thing i looked at is high in carbs.
can anyone give me some ideas of what to get that is low in carbs please?

are eggs ok, bacon, liver?

Oher than 0n-line, Prepared low carb foods are few and far between. The hostility to the Atkins diet has pretty much killed them off.
Those of us who low carb, use fresh ingredients and cook from scratch. Look on Amazon for cookbooks. there's not a lot of carb in steak with green salad.
On-line sources include
Low-Carb Megastore
and
AVIDLITE
Fresh food is MUCH cheaper.
For example, for lunch today, I've had a couple of slices of nice ham and a few thawed( formerly frozen berries) with cream.
A valuable resource is Collins Little Gem Calorie or carbohydrate counter.
Either of these little books is cheap( under £5) and small enough for handbag or pocket, plus cammed with useful information

As a general rule of thumb I tend not to buy anything packaged with more than 10 gms per 100gm of carb in it but that is my personal preference.

 Take a look at the newbies guide in teh low carb forum.
 Buy a carb counting book.
 Learn to read labels - the carb content

If you are worried about low carb food costing more, go visit your local street market.

if it is labeled as low fat, I'd give it a wide birth and don't buy things with more than 10g carb

leafy green salads are okay as are mushrooms, aubergine, courgette, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, cucumber etc Most veg are low enough to be very good for your low carb diet. Ever so slightly higher are tomato, onions, peppers etc

berries - strawberries, blueberries and rasperries - are much lower carb than most other fruits and often you can get a good deal on frozen berries - I put them in to Lidl greek yoghurt and the frozen berries swirl around in a much more attractive and colourful way than fresh.

cooking affects how much available carb there is - I only eat raw carrot now, not cooked anymore

most cheese is less than 1g carb per hundred

double cream is better than single cream for carbs :D

And yes eggs are fine :D

I'm a vegetarian so won't be advising you on meat and fish :D
