Type 2 Help needed re. Metformin SR and Sitagliptin

If the pharmacist is unable to advise you, then do not start the Sitagliptin without speaking to your GP first. I assure you from experience that an extra day without it will make no difference in the long term. Personally, I would rather not take it without speaking to my GP first, than take it and end up with pancreatitis all over again! It is always best to err on the side of caution.

Hi. I was on Sitagliptin but I wouldn't have taken it if I had had pancreatitis. Gliclazide is another common drug to stimulate the pancreas but again may not be right if you've had pancreatitis. It may be that you need to go onto insulin early when needed to avoid tablets that may affect the pancreas.

I had hospital tests a number of years ago which went wrong and I ended up in hospital for 7 weeks with pancreatitis. Do you think it is safe for me to start Sitagliptin? I am feeling quite anxious about this because I am terrified of getting pancreatitis again as this was so painful. I will be speaking to my GP tomorrow (Wednesday) about this but looking for some guidance before I speak to her. Many thanks
