Hi to everyone totally new to this type of forum so will try to introduce myself. I am sixty six years old was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 1999 and currently controlling condition with tablets, I try really hard to keep active by long walks etc but lately finding it hard to maintain weight levels do anyone out there have any good tips and mayby some sort of diet regime would really appreciate any help regards Ray

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I am 67 years old and controlling my type 2 with diet, no meds. The important thing in losing weight is to reduce the carbs. This will also help enormously with blood sugar levels. I have lost over 4 stones since starting the low carb diet, with increased fats, mostly dairy. My lipids and triglycerides have improved significantly. Have a look at this thread, which you may find useful http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/a-new-low-carb-guide-for-beginners.68695/ It is the carbs that cause weight gain, not the fats.

How is your diabetes control? What was your last HbA1c? Maybe that will improve too.

Hi thanks for the information I have learned more from this forum than all the times I have been to the diabetic clinic.I have asked about eating bananas
but had been told that they were ok but a friend of mine says that his clinic says that you should not eat them. Regards Ray
