Hi All.
I was only diagnosed with Diabetes a couple of weeks ago, this site is wonderful and full of useful info, my brother was doing research on my behalf and came across it, I did post a question about my increase in blood sugars and did get some help, I am now due back at hospital on Wednesday morning.
my question is that I was first put on Metformin and this didn't touch it, then they increased the dose again no change my blood sugars range from 13.5 now to 33.1 then i was put on 80mg Glicuazide to take in the morning, they said that this would dramatically drop my blood sugars but have been on the 3 days and im still high my last reading today was 26.5.
i wanted to know if its true what my doctor told me that Glicuazide will use what insulin i have left to bring sugars down and if it doesn't then the chances are i am not procusing any insulin, as yet they are saying I am type 1 even though i am in my 40s i guess i am just hoping they have it wrong and i can or will be able to manage this with diet alone.
Thank you all again, such a great site :O) xx

Welcome,Your brother has done you proud.
This maybe one of the best places you could find. Read around & learn & ask any questions you need to, there's a wealth of info here from those that live & control it well.
Most of us follow a low carb higher fat way of eating as this has many benefits not only for diabetes. That's because sugar/carbs & starchy items are our main enermy & need to be cut as much as posible.

Some very high readings there.
Bit quiet this place but I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along soon.
What are you eating?
There's a reason our bloods go high and it's usually the grub that's responsible.

It does seem possible you have Type 1. Ask for GADA and C peptide tests at your next appointment. Probably they will agree due to your poor response to insulin stimulating drugs.
