Hi guys,

I will summarise as best I can
was High (>10 minimum) all day yesterday until 9pm. Tested 5.3 ate a jam tart, started feeling really awful really quickly within 15 mins down to 3.1 on meter (I would say it was lower).

Took ages to come up, at 11pm I was 8.2. reduced lantus 2U to 13.

Got up at 6.30 - 21 as expected. 8.30 - 17, and dropping since WITHOUT insulin or any exercise (I laid in till 11) had eggs for breakfast with no insulin. Now down to 12.

Should I be worried? any ideas?

Hi, luckily haven't had unexplained erratic levels.
My first thought is absorption, could you have problems with some injection sites . Injecting in sites with lipohyper-trophy ('bumps') can cause reduced absorption.Conversely with lipoatrophy ('dips'), absorption can apparently be rapid and unpredictable.

Competitive sport. I'm more of a for fun type person.
Absorption problems if you have lumpy points in your skin from injections. Or, how new a diabetic are you? If you are quite new, you could still be honeymooning (when your pancreas occasionally gives out an extra spurt of insulin)

have you changed insulin vial or cartridge? Changed timing of basal dosage?

I've been running very low this week, which I think is down to two things, 1) the warmer, more humid weather again and 2) more physical activity in terms of some heavy work in the garden. Ypu say you're not exercising, but have you increased activity in any other way?

I think its due to the action of the Lantus that you injected. Now that its the afternoon, the Lantus is losing its action.

But the lantus shouldn't be dropping my bg's and I've never had that before. I took reduced dose too. My lantus normally lasts the full 24 plus a bit.

Lantus is just a very slow acting insulin. Insulin lowers bg levels and that is what you have experienced. If you had also given yourself a bolus this morning, your bg levels would have lowered even quicker...

Change of lantus levels also takes about 5 days to have any affect really was told by DSN. Also main gauge of lantus affect will be test after you've been sleeping so will know when just lantus in system. Might be a short term insulin you need to reduce. Speak to your DSN they will advise ;)

i occasionally get this adn its totally unexplained. i also have had diabetes for 22+ years adn i tend to get it on an annual (ish) occurance and try to put it down to every small change in diet! (which is ultimately ridiculous) i have never had an explanation from anyone - hte best reason i ever got from the doctor was 'are you sure you didnt inject twice??'

afraid i cant offer any light to this only that you are not the only one!
