Hi everyone, I have just finished a three week course of antibiotics, for some problems with an ulcer on my leg, now my usual IBS has gone into over drive, I thought it was buggy related till I eventually put two and two together it is mostly down to the meds...so I need to be eating some sort of yoghurt to help set things right. Up until I was diagnosed I was rather fond of the muller corners with those lush little while chocolate balls....ok take a moment here to accept that they are no longer on the menu...so can anyone offer some advice as to which ones would be ok.

I would be very grateful for any advice.

Thanks
Jak

Hi Jak - I am very partial to Total Greek Yoghurt or Lidle Greek yoghurt, both full fat versions, they are luxuriously creamy and you can dress them up, add some berries, you can mash them up a little to give a more intense flavour, add sweetener if you have a really sweet tooth, sometimes I only add a little sweetener and cinnamon, or sweetener, cinnamon and stewed rhubarb is nice too.

Staying off sugary things while you are healing is a very good idea, you will heal better and these yoghurts are probiotic so good for your tummy and will replace the good bacteria that are destroyed by the antibiotics.

I hope all goes well for you

I recently had to take some antibiotics for the first time since I have had diabetes (actually I realised it was the first time in 30 years!) I had had much higher than normal BG levels during the illness and as I came to the end of the course of antibiotics I realised that I was developing thrush.
I bought some plain raw milk yoghurts (have to say don't know how easy they are to get in the UK... health food shop?). I bought raw since I thought that pasturisation would mean fewer active bacteria. I ate it with some mixed berries (frozen), sweetened with a tiny squirt of agave syrup. Whether it was the yoghurt or I was just getting back to normal but within a few days I had no more thrush symptoms.

Thank you for your help, a friend one mine has suggested blueberries, so will be getting some of those and the plain yoghurts to see if I can calm this down.

You need live yogurt so you have the good bacteria to help balance things out.

I end up taking antibiotics regularly, and I too have IBS, it gets quite bad at times. My GP advised me to take each antibiotic with a bottle of Yakult, it really works. This was before I was diagnosed though.
