Hi. So I was diagnosed with pre diabetes over a year ago. Now the tips of my fingers are numb. My legs are so stiff and painful. I find it really hard to exercise with this, not an excuse. My doctor does not seem to be concerned. Tests are done but nothing found. I don't really know what to do but I'm very concerned I may have diabetic neuropathy. I don't really understand blood sugars and how to read them easily as I'm dyslexic. Looking for any help please even just to understand the blood sugar readings. Thank you

Hello and welcome,

Have you got a meter? If not consider a meter which links to your phone as then it is easier to keep records. I have mysugr app and that has a green, amber and red zones so if you have difficulty reading and transcribing numbers that may be helpful

Diet is actually more important than exercise so don't lose heart. Many people also find that going low carb deals with other physical issues- I lost my asthma (and I'm not looking for it lol) others lose other inflammatory illness .

So there is real hope.

I would suggest that if you are not on any blood sugar lowering medication that you consider going low carb. How low? Well that varies from person to person. If you are still pre diabetic you may not need tp go as low carb as me for example but you may want to try very low carb to see if it helps with the other issues.

The link below will help understand the readings:

Good luck and welome. Let us know if you have any more questions. We're a friendly bunch and very willing to help.

Thank you that's really helpful I appreciate it. What meter do you use please? I'm just having a look but only a few that link to phones

Mine is the ACCU-CHEK Guide.

When I bought it it was a bit more expensive than some of the others but I am in the fortunate position to be able to decide that my health is worth spending money on. I can't tell you how expensive the strips are but look into it as that is a recurrent cost.
initially I tested at least 7 times a day now 3 times o only just to keep an eye on it but you can test less once you have got your levels under control.

It may be nothing to do with the pre diabetes so it may be an idea to see your GP again - or try a different one in your practice.

@Sherlock 1968 I second this. Diabetic complications usually occur after years or decades of diabetic (not pre diabetic) levels, so don't assume that any illness you have is because of diabetes. I am disappointed that your GP is ignoring your symptoms, please push for some help.
