Hi
I am newish to forum & 1st time poster. I have been t2 for number of years & am on insulin (4 jabs a day). I also have underactive thyroid & PCOS.

After having shocking result from blood test I have decided to try low carbing. Just wanted some recommendations on books which give info on topic & some basic recipes/menus. I would prefer a book which is uk based with emphasis on easy to obtain ingredients). I live in scottish highland so it might b difficult to source some things. I know there is loads of recipes on the forum but to start off would prefer a book(s). I am an old fashioned gal lol.

Any help will be gratefully received.

I think that Dr. Richard Bernstein's book "The Complete Diabetes Solution " is the best for explanations. Atkins diet cookbooks are preetty helpful, with lots of low carb meal ideas.

Hi Andi -)
I sympathise with the difficulty of obtaining things, being rural and miles from the most basic of shops that I am .
I find shopping online is the best solution for me, Amazon have a good selection of Low Carb books, make sure you read the reviews to make sure they are suitable for you though. The same goes for ingredients, some of the staples I need I can get online, and others ( almond flour, soya flour, linseed etc ) I buy in bulk in the Asian shops on my rare visits to the nearest city as it's so much cheaper. But failing that, I have found them on Amazon, eBay, and sometimes in the large supermarkets too.
Good luck! :-)

And don't be buying the pre-packaged Atkins snack bars, cookies, brownies and the like. They are rubbish, bad for diabetics. The Atkins company went a bit off the rails after Dr Atkins died.
