Help please!!!!

Not a pumper so can't help, hang fire as someone will answer your question and offer you some advice.

You should be weary of blood in the cannula as it can block the insulin. I have taken a cannula out before now and seen a very minute trace of blood in the tubing but if you can see it now I would change the set.

Don't panic, it does happen sometimes and is just one of those things - you've just nicked a small blood vessel.

I think the consensus is to change the set if you see blood in the tubing. I've only ever noticed it after taking a set out, but on those occasions have tended to see bruising where the site was inserted. As the pooled blood can interfere with the insulin absorption, it makes sense to move to another site if you notice it happen to you.

I've only found blood in a canula, or sometimes on the sticky pad, which helps it stay attached to us after removal, like others have said. But if mine sting and don't settle within 20mins. I change the set.

Let us know how you got on Alexandra

Hey everyone,

Last time I ended up having to call the accucheck 24hour line. I was really ill with being sick as well but they seemed to say not to worry about the blood.

However, I changed my cannula yesterday, no problems. With it being a 2 day one, I would be due to change it in the morning. Just had to change my cartridges etc as empty and when I went to reconnect the pump I noticed that yet again I have blood in the cannula line. I've taken it out and my site is perfectly normal, there is no bruising etc and actually not even any sign that I've had a cannula where it was. I have noticed that my leg is slightly swollen in general though. I've just checked bg and it's 6.5 ketones 0.2 but I feel horrific! I felt like I was sky high, really thirsty, headachey and really disorientated and like I'm going to pass out. :(
