Hi ive just introduced myself on another thread but would like some advice please.
I was diagnosed 2 months ago because i went to docs feeling terrible.within 3 days i was at clinic in hospital being told i was diabetic and shown how to take insulin. im sure the nurse gave me lots of info but you an imagine not much went in. i was told to inject twice a day lots of stuff about food and to phone her in three days. i did phone with my readings. she advised me to alter the dose and said to give her a ring sometime in the next week. not very helpfull. i visited y doc who wasnt happy that ide been sent to hospital and seemed reluctant to advise. he did say i would need blood test for antibodies to see if i was 1 or 2. i have now waited 6 weeks for test to come back. is this normal. do they usually take this long. i recieved a letter to tell me ive been put on waiting list for a DESMOND course. dosnt seem to make sense. DESMOND is for type 2. if they do t know what i am whats the point, wont it be a waste of time. can anyone tell me how long this test should take.
sorry for rambling im just so lost. i think im managing sugar but only just.
i have a very physical job, how can i eat enough to get me through the day and take insulin so keep levels ok.
i gettin a few hypos. is it cos im taking to much insulin or not enough food i just dont know.
i asked to go to diabetic clinic at docs but was told no point they wont say anything until they decide if im 1 or 2.
i feel like im going round and round.
sorry for rambling

if you are hypoing, you need to ring your nurse to help adjust your insulin..did she give you a pamphlet like this for your insulin brand?
http://www.medicines.org.uk/EMC/med...enfill+100+U+ml,+NovoMix+30+FlexPen+100+U+ml/

on a fixed dose of insulin, till I could contact my nurse, I would need to eat the same amount of carb every meal every day..to keep it all balanced..low bg I would eat more carb.. high bg I would eat less with that meal the next day

Hi and welcome. The GAD & c-peptide tests should only take 2-3 weeks so it sounds like the test has gone dead or whatever. Do chase the surgery to see what's happening and ask to be referred to the hospital clinic if the surgery give you the runaround. Do you have a meter to test your blood sugar? What sort of readings are you getting? What is your weight? If you were overweight at diagnosis then T2 is more likely. If slim then T1 is more likely. How old are you? Most of us have a low-carb diet regardless of diabetes type as it helps control blood sugar and weight and keeps any meds to a minimum. If you are found to be T1, you may after a while have your insulin regime changed from a single mixed insulin twice a day to two insulins with 3 to 5 injections per day. The lattter gives better control at the expense of more injections. Some people choose one rather than the other if they have strong views. So, one way or another you will be able to have good sugar control with insulin. Hopefully your results will come and you can move forward, but it isn't essential to know what type you are; if you need insulin you should have it.

Hi Parrotlady, I have only been T1 for about 5 months and am still (principally) using mixed insulin twice a day.
My blood sugars had been very high for a long time and it took me a total of about 12 weeks to feel comfortable with normal BS levels (everyone's different though) - is this maybe what you are experiencing? What are your BG numbers? and what were they at the point of diagnosis?
