I've been on Merformin 5mg for five days now and although I feel ok I have massive bite like lumps on my back, another has come up tonight and one on the side of my face. Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe just a coincidence but they are so itchy!!!!

I haven't had this side effect but I looked up Metformin on www.drugs.com and an itchy rash is listed as a potential side effect, also erythema, which I think is a rash that can look like insect bites.
If you have any cream with hydrocortisone in it, that could reduce the itching. This cream is available from your pharmacy without prescription. Or you could see your doctor, to check that it's not a serious problem, and to get a script for cream or antihistamine tablets. (You can also get the tablets without a script).
I would stop taking the Metformin in case it is causing the lumps. If you see your doctor, then he or she will know why you stopped the Metformin, which could be helpful.

If the lumps keep getting worse or you have any other symptoms such as fever or headache, you should call your doctor or NHS direct for advice because it could be something serious.

5mg seems an odd dose.
2000mg is usually the maximum dose, 500mg is the minimum.

It doesn't have to be forever. If you can reduce your blood sugar levels you may be able to reduce back to 500mg or stop it completely. If you have bad side effects you don't need to keep taking it.
