I’m a 70 year old male. Advised as Pre diabetic 18 months ago after an HbA1c test and had diet and lifestyle changes advice. I’ve had hypertension for over 40 years (controlled by medication) but following sepsis 12 months ago this became seriously uncontrolled. Hypertension consultant prescribed major medication change and BP reduced. He also instructed blood tests. Further treatment was delayed because I was hospitalised with pancreatitis. Hospital monitored glucose levels regularly and these were high. GP doctor carried out further HbA1C. This was a level of 45 but glucose at 8. Meanwhile hypertension consultant says I should have diabetic medication as glucose too high. GP did test again and says glucose of 8 was not sufficient confirmation of a diabetes diagnosis. Consultant says guidelines are over 7. My glucose levels at home are running at 11. Any advice very appreciated!

Welcome to the forums @Landmartin .

Am hba1c of 45 is prediabetic and corresponds to an average blood sugar of 7.4mmol/L

Do you know the units for these measurements. Single one off measurements in mmol/L aren't that informative but an hba1c in % of 7 corresponds to an average bg of 8.6mmol/L while 8% corresponds to 10.1mmol/L

With a diagnosis of pancreatitis I personally would push for a cpeptide test to see whether your pancreas is still producing enough insulin.
