Help! Sweet induction phase options

Hi fellow low carbers.

I've been low carbing a while - having around 30-40g carbs max a day but started Atkins induction phase four days ago where I'm only allowed 20g carb a day, no fruit, no nuts for two weeks.

Today I'm desperate for something sweet. Other than Greek yoghurt what else could I have?

I'm almost claiming the walls...

Either homemade ice cream or choc mug cake with double cream! I have 2 squares of dark choccie unless I have dessert .

Choc mug cake:
50g butter, melted in the microwave
3tbsp ground almonds
1 1/5 tbsp sweetner
1/4 tsp vanilla
Pinch of salt
1 egg
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 squares 70% dark flavoured with orange chocolate
Or
1 square 90% chocolate, chopped
2 tbsp pecans

Melt the butter in a bowl, add remaining ingredients and divide into 2 mugs and nuke for 1 minute per mug.

Ice-cream
Per person:
100g frozen berries or cherries
100ml double cream
1tsp sweetner

Blitz berries in food processor till in tiny pieces. Add cream and sweetner. Blitz till ice-cream. You cannot freeze this so eat immediately!

Thanks scandi - I can save those for after induction as it's got nuts in it :(

I think I'll make ice cream tomorrow. Just gotta remember where I've stored the ice cream maker....

Cheers av - I'll do that next time I'm suffering! Can def spare 3G carbs from veg ;)

Scandi - do I need to keep stirring the I've cream mixture in freezer? I'll have to do vanilla as fruit is banned till week 3.

I bet most people fail at induction phase! I was so fired up but today has been a struggle. I've paced the house lots til I decided to make a cinnamon cheesecake but without the but base. No idea what it will be like but willing to give it a shot! Only problem is my timing is so off that it will ruin my bedtime routine...

I don't freeze it. I blitz the frozen berries till small pieces then add sweetner and cream till blended then eat.

****! Berries are banned for another 10 days.... I'll have jelly and cream tomorrow and save the berry I've cream for first day of normal Atkins! Something look forward to.

It is a fairly rough ride Deb, I got sugar withdrawal symptoms even though I'd given up 99% of starchy, sugary stuff before I started, and also felt quite rotten for a bit - a touch of the dreaded low carb/Atkins flu - as my body switched over to fat burning. I didn't do the Atkins diet as such but used the induction phase as a guide; this way allowed me to have some fruit in my diet and I used to have few blueberries with yoghurt for breakfast. The only reason his induction phase is so rigid is mainly to guarantee to get you into ketosis, but you can get also get there being a bit more lenient and eating a somewhat wider variety of foods, such as small portions of berries and nuts. Just watch the carbs in any sweet treats if you're down to 20gms a day - they can soon sneak up, and you will lose out on your healthy veggies.:eek: You could also try the artificial sweetener route, as long as you are careful as I believe some of them are bulked out with filler which tends to be starchy.

If you haven't got any yet, buy some Ketostix which you can use to test your wee for ketones, and do this at bedtime. They're a just rough guide, but aren't expensive. I got mine from eBay, but I imagine most good chemists would stock them.

PS The venerable Atkins is now dead, and his diet is now commercialised, and to allow for people who can't give up their sweeties, they sell a wide variety of cereal type bars, which seem to be full of various artificial sweeteners... the poor man must be turning in his grave!

I don't feel bad at all - just craving contraband! ;)

20g is pretty much sweet FA but I'm determined to do it. I don't think I've been in ketosis yet at all - got the test strips and they always come back negative so a bit disheartening :( I'll try the bedtime testing to see if that makes a difference.

I don't fancy any of the branded goodies. Would much rather make my own stuff but trouble is - they all contain lovely nuts which isn't allowed.

Today is day 5.....

Scandi - I just play about with ingredients. Cinnamon one was:

4 medium eggs
275g cream cheese
150g Turkish yoghurt
4tbs truvia
2 tbs corn flour
2 tbs cinnamon
1 tbs vanilla

Whizz that lot in blender, bake at gas mark 2 for 45 mins. It would def be better with a but base though too :)
