Hi all,

I have been type 1 for three years and managed to maintain HbA1c of around 5.5. However, for the past year or so i have found that i am taking more and more insulin but really struggling to maintain good BG levels. My DR is frankly uninterested and fixates on my weight (i am 5'6" and weigh ten stone) and i leave feeling so belittled and embarassed that i have stopped going for checks. Not many people know i have diabetes and i don't know any one with it.

Can anyone shed any light on why this has happened and what i can do to get everything back under control?

Hi Nickie.

Can you tell us why the Doc is worried about your weight. Seems pretty good to me 5' 6" and 10 stone is a BMI of 22.6, a NORMAL weight !

If you are taking more Insulin and still your Bg levels are not good then it may be that your diet and or Insulin doseage needs adjusting. Are the levels too high or too low ? I think you possibly need to re-appraise everything, in effect start with a clean sheet.

Hopefully a Type 1 may be along soon and can advise you better with doseage etc.

Hi Nikki,

Have you spoken to your diabetes nurse at your local hospital? I know the support that is available from place to place can differ but I find that my GP and the nurses at the surgery are useless but the nurses I see at the specialist clinic at the hospital are ace! Perhaps someone like that could help you understand the changes in your control and help you re-jig your dosage? It could be that you just need to re-calculate your ratio's which is easily done and easy to maintain :D

sounds like your stressing over your weight which would give a negative effect on your bloods.so i say stop worring take it easy.
