Insulin
Hi all,

I have recently changed from a 75-25 mix to using lantus and humalog. The reason for this is I was experiencing lows before each meal but my sugar levels in the morning were on the high side. I am now injecting the long lasting insulin around 7pm-5units and I take the fast acting before my evening meal-5units. This doesn't seem to have made a difference to my blood first thing in the morning it's always between 6-7. I don't want to inject anything in the morning because my blood is fine through the day between 4-5 before my dinner and lunch. Ive tried adjusting my long lasting units and even tried taking it latter at night but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Does anyone experience it, or got any advice? What is the ideal blood sugar for the morning and do people check there blood as soon as they wake up or give it an hour or so ?

Many thanks x

Personally I don't thing waking with a bg level of 6-7 is anything to worry about when your using insulin, out of interest what are your bg levels like before you go to bed?

The difficulty is (and this is because your on a small dose of basal insulin already) if you increase the dose you may go hypo through the night.

My bg levels before bed can vary but never higher than 7. I try to keep it around 6 but have been to bed as low as 4.5( I know it's not advised) but it makes no difference to my morning levels.

Dan, if your going to bed with readings of 6 and waking to around the same levels then that means your basal insulin dose is spot on, they say you should only adjust your basal insulin if it fluctuates by more than 1.7mmol during a fasting period.
