Help with low carbs and low GI

Hello.
I haven't been told by a doctor that I am diabetic I think I am prediabetic as was told a few years ago that I was borderlin. I have been feeling so tired lately and every time I eat anything with sugar or high in carbs I just drop of to sleep and wake up with a hangover as if I have been on the drink. I have bought a blood monitor to see what my blood glucose is and the readings was 6.7 fasting and after eating about 7.6 and one time 10. 8. What I would like to know is how many carbs should I eat to keep blood sugar lower not for losing weight?

There is no simple answer to this. Some on this forum have a very low carbs approach, whilst others find they can tolerate a greater amount of them.
The best advice is for you to eat to your meter. Testing before, and then one and two hours after any food 'experiment' will show you which foods, especially carbs, your body reacts to. Simply avoid the ones which cause too much of a spike, like the 10.8.

We can all know which foods are likely to spike your BS, but only you can know which actually do.
That puts you in control, which can only be a good thing :D

Thanks for the reply. I had a lot of roast potatoes when my readings was over ten so that's a start will cut down on them.
Another question, is it a symptom when you drop of to sleep after eating to many high carbs, also the top of my feet get painful has anyone else had that?
My Dr isn't very helpful she seems to be always in a rush to get you out so can't ask her much.

AFAIK sleepiness after a meal is a classic sign of high carb intake. So would be why so many need to sleep off their Xmas dinner.

Can't help with the foot problem. Perhaps something to bring up with your doctor ?

I think first and foremost you should find out for definite if you're diabetic. Your readings you gave us sound as if you are, but you need a proper diagnosis. Then you can set about tackling it properly with a well planned approach to diet. So insist on a proper test and then come back and let us know.
Good luck.

Hi
When you say a proper test do you mean a fasting blood test at he Dr or a glucose test? I have posted another question about this on ask a question.

Hi

I would insist on a glucose tolerance test, especially as you were told you were borderline before.
The glucose tolerance test is used to measure your bodies response to glucose over a 2 hour period.

A full blood test will give an indication of your average blood glucose over a longer period.

A was only diagnosed T2 a couple of months ago.
Even though I had sugar detected in my urine 3 years ago and they did a full blood test which showed by Hb1ac (avg blood sugar) as normal and didn't do a tolerance test. They gave me the all clear.

It was only recently that I did a tolerance test and found out I was diabetic.

If they had done this 3 years ago I might of being to reduce the effect or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.
