if anyone can share any thoughts i would be grateful even if they are brutal :) i can take the truth, many thanx xxx

Type 2 , 51 yrs old, no meds diet only xx

I answered this on your other post [now merged with this one]. It sounds as if you know what's caused the increase, and done well to limit the damage, to be honest!

No need to get down that 41 is the new measurement style and equates to 5.9% in the old system. You can do the conversion here http://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-units-converter.html So you got a brilliant result and should be pleased. Your 4.7 cholesterol level would be treated as fine if you were not diagnosed as diabetic. The target for the general population is 5 but for diabetics its 4.

In old readings the NHS tries to target between 6.5% and 7.5% (48 - 58 in new numbers) but increasingly seems to be aiming to get newly diagnosed T2's to go for 6.5% and less although the official N.I.C.E guidelines have yet to change so again you are doing great by that measure. The bottom line is getting sub 6.5% means you've undoubtedly put in a load of hard work so well done and don't get down

Thank you all for you superb repies as always....i was just a little worried that its has gone from 5.5 to now 5.9 in 9 months but as i said i can see how that happened and will endevour to change that...my chol is 4.7 and i was diagnosed last year type 2, do you think they might offer me statins? although i would like to try and bring it down myself, thanx again xx

Hi

Congratulations on having a good HbA1c and for all that you have done to get it there. You might be offered a statin for the cholesterol but, as you know that you have put on a bit of weight, you might want to reach agreement with your GP that you will work at losing the weight and see where you are at the next review.

Watch your diet and take more exercise and, hopefully, your numbers will be improved when you have your next review.

Take care

Doug

Thank you Osidge :)

i would prefer to try and lower it myself....i did lose 2 and half stone since diagnosed but gained over half a stone back in the last few months do you think that would count for the slight higher reading? xx

Certainly your bp and bg could be affected by your weight gain. If you lose some weight, here's hoping that you will be able to show your GP that you can manage your issues at this time. There is no point in having medication if you do not need it but you must always be open, in my opinion, to medication if it is needed.

I agree Doug!!

i will have a chat with the nurse and GP and if they sugest statins i will ask for 3 months to try and correct things, when was you put on meds? was it at dx?

Hi

I was on a atorvastatin and bp trearment at dx but as part of the Anglo Scandinavian Coronary Outcome Trial (ASCOT) and not by my GP.

Doug
