What do people do when they are ill with flu?

My sugars were in the 9's yesterday and today up to 10's i feel like death :( I had blood test this morning (fasting) and they were 10 when i checked after getting home, thats not going to look to good for my hospital update and i was doing so well booooooo.

All my doctor has done is sign me off for a week with not really much advice. :?

Im very tired, weak and shakey but other than rest i dont know what else to do to help? It also doesnt help that im asthmatic aswell.

From the NHS website.........

Make sure you have plenty of rest and are taking paracetamol-based cold remedies to lower your temperature and relieve symptoms.

Some over-the-counter treatments can be given to children who have flu, according to the instructions supplied with each medicine. Under-16s must not take aspirin or ready-made flu remedies containing it.

Always read the medicine's label or check with the pharmacist that it is suitable for children to take.

Drink plenty of fluids while you are recovering. You may need to stay in bed for two or three days after your symptoms peak.

That's basically it, what I tend to do although I haven't had the Flu for years as I have the seasonal Flu Jab, Just enjoy the break from normal activities and let Diabetes take a back seat. Once the infection is gone then you will be back to normal. Don't worry about the odd hiccup in control, it doesn't last for ever.

Hope you get better soon.

Me too - I had the flu jab and now I've got flu  I guess it doesn't cover all strains of flu. I suppose I would have got it worse if I hadn't had the jab. I'm watching my levels closely as they are higher than usual.

Sods law that daisy! :( I was told that the flu-jab is to guard against the most dangerous/life threatening strain of flu circulating the world and is no deterrent against lesser strains.

Last time I had flu around 5 years ago I felt like death, I could neither lift my head off the pillow or my legs over the side of the bed, it's a nasty thing and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Well I know it's no help to you but thank you anyway. You two poor flu sufferers have helped me make up my mind about having the flu jab. I have never had flu and I was umming and aahhhing about having the jab done but now I shan't bother. Hope you feel better soon!

I work in a special needs school, hubby is a teacher in a different school and son has just started secondary school - I have been having flu jabs for ages (asthma originally) and am so glad I do as I get 3 lots of germs thrown at me!

I would suggest anyone has a jab - it has helped me :)

hope you feel better soon - and what rotten luck to have the flu after the jab :(
