Hi,
I'm T1 and low carb. Here are my answers:
1. Yes. Definitely. When I started low carbing my hba1c went from 7.7% to 6.5%. As donelly says, fewer hypos too. Gone from a few a week to a few very mild ones per month.
2. Nope. None.
3. I don't follow carb prescriptions, I just don't eat bread, pasta, rice, potato etc. If you wanted to, buy Richard Bernstein's Diabetes Diet book, he prescribes 6g for breakfast, 12g for lunch and dinner. It's got recipes in it, but I found it too strict, so just avoid the carbs given above.
If you're hitting the 6.5% hba1c target then consider low carbing otherwise you're doing a good enough job with carbs!
