I've just found out I'm 2-3 weeks pregnant this was not planned I haven't seen the doc yet my hba1c last month was 57 which I know is bad I so worried now any advice would be great I'm type 2 on metformin

Hi I'm type1 so might be different. First of all don't stress too much as that will make things worse. I would arrange to speak to your dsn on Monday to see what they recommend. 57 isn't horrendous. I was told 5.5 before meal and 7.5 hour after meal so are you regularly testing your sugars? I used to test during the night too a couple of times. Try low GI foods to not spike your sugars. I'm sure there are other ladies on here that can better advise re type2. Just try and focus on moving forward xx

Hi - I'm Type 1 too and I echo @1Sarah1 's advice about speaking to someone as soon as you can. This is so you can get seen and get set up for the diabetes/pregnancy clinics :) If you have the phone number of your local Diabetes Centre at your local hospital, I'd give them a call and ask to speak to a DSN. My hospital had one who was a 'pregnancy DSN' and she was fantastic.

Are you taking high dose folic acid? If not, ask the DSN or doctor about that.

While you're waiting to speak to someone, just relax and concentrate on yourself :) Your HbA1C isn't horribly high so don't panic :)

Let us know how you get on :)

Thanks guys I'm going to try and call them tomorrow my bloods have been really high even though I have avoided carbs for two days lowest was 7.7 so I will need to start some insulin I think I was hoping to avoid this for a while as I had to do this with my son in my first pregnancy I'm worried I'm going to effect the baby with these high readings but hoping to sort it out I have some folic acid 5mg so started that straight away will let you know what they say thanks for your support xx

I've got an appt to see the DSN and consultant on Thursday so I feel better now the nurse said my HBA1C isn't too bad either so put my mind at rest X
