HELP

Hi tolsn

You should be okay, particularly if you can see the scratches and get at them easily to take care of them. They may be just a little slow in healing because of the diabetes.

Wash them again with a bit of disinfectant in the water, and treat them with something like lavender oil or tea tree oil. Or an ordinary antiseptic cream. Both might sting a bit on a new scratch!

The problem with cat scratches is that they can easily get infected. Keep a close eye on them, and if you think they are not healing properly get down to see the nurse at the surgery straight away. Tell the receptionist you are a diabetic with unhealed wounds on your feet - that should get you to the head of the queue

I see from your profile that you're fairly newly diagnosed, is that right? How high are your blood glucose readings? The higher they are, the more problems you may have with healing. On the bright side, the more you can feel the scratches, the less likely it is that you have diabetic neuropathy :D

Let us know how you get on.

Edit: PS For a dressing tonight I would probably cover them with some clean lint or similar, and stick it on with tape, just to avoid catching them at all while you're in bed. Do something similar for tomorrow, particularly if you wear tights - you don't want them sticking. I prefer to leave wounds open to the air if possible, but if not, a light covering or dressing or an elastoplast big enough to cover the whole area is what I would go for. The nurse may give you some suitable dressings - mine does! Clean them morning and evening. Sorry if you know all this! V
