Please can someone help.ive been diagnosed with type 2 on Monday.was called in after a routine check up 3weeks ago and told my blood level was 12.i went on holiday the next day worried sick to Italy.whilst away cut down on booze tried to eat regular and healthy and bought a meter and tested first thing every day.first week levels were average 9.5.second two weeks 7.8.since I've been home the last three days have been 9.i have lost a stone and am eating routinely and exercising well.i am so worried as I have 2 young children and want to see them grow up.the doctor says 3 months to bring it down on diet but seems concerned.i don't know anything about diabetes and need a few answers .will it kill me? Realistically how long will I get?will it get worse?how long can survive?i am 43 now and have no symptoms except sometimes slight numbness in left hand or foot.also if I'm put on tablets how long will they be effective.i am so worried can someone please help.

No it won't kill you and although the stats say diabetes could take 10 years off life the old stats are not giving the best possible answers since bad advice about dieting and managing diabetes is often handed out.

I joined in a thread the other day which might be a good place to start you off. There are not too many posts on it. Read through it a if you have questions there are always people here to help you.

Here is the link to the other thread.

Thanks for that.my emotions are all over the place at the moment.i can't stop feeling that I'm on the slippery slope.it seems everyone I know, knows someone who is diabetic and most say don't worry just take care of yourself properly, but it definitely helps to talk to people.

Hello Stuart

Welcome to the forum! I was diagnosed T2 at the end of March this year and just like you I was panicked and absolutely scared out of my wits....but thanks to this forum it did not take long to get myself back on track.

My Hbac1 at diagnosis was 10.7 and I have managed to get it down to 6.6 which I am very happy with. I do low carb but not near as low as some on the forum but I am doing ok. I have lost 9kgs and feel fitter and healthier than I have ever felt in my life. I do NOT believe I have shortened my life span in fact I feel I have added years to it. If I did not get the diagnosis I probably would be still consuming large amounts of yucky carbs and doing myself more damage.

At the start of this I did feel it was the end of the world but really it is not Stuart. I do know how you are feeling. I have a great hubby and 3 terrific kids and like you only 43 when diagnosed.

Look around the forum and ask questions, there are many wonderful, helpful people here to help you. Life does go on and it feels great.

Warm regards

Sandra

I just re-read this thread and I am being a little flippant here but, Stuart r, all the people you refer to are still alive so calm yourself.
