I have a hospital appointment on Wednesday and I'm royally screwed.

I'm at my lowest point again. Not only is this weighing on my mind but my heavy load of school work (and exams at the end of the school year) is taking a toll on me. I know my Hb1Ac is going to be off the charts again, I'm really scared they're going to hospitalise me or something. Do any of you have a suggestion as to what I can do and that I can propose to the Doctor and nurse? Please please help me, I feel like no one surrounding me at the moment can.

Hello Amber,
sorry to hear you have run into problems.
16 is a rotten time for having diabetes due to hormones, stress from exams etc.
Do you know what is going wrong, as in are you not injecting when you should or just eating to much for the insulin injected?

Hi lottie
School exams are stressful enough without DB and hospital appointments so no wonder you are in a state I cant recommend anything you can do at the moment except perhaps tell the Doctor and nurse what you have told us even print out your E mail to show how you feel Tell them you want to do something about your Diabetes .Write down anything you want to say so that you dont freeze up with nerves.,and remember people on this forum will try to help and understand. Hang in there .

Hi Lottie, I'm sorry you are feeling so low, but remember the Dr and nurses are there to help you, not tell you off. If you tell them you are feeling overwhelmed, struggling to cope with everything at once, they will be understanding and will work with you to put together a plan to get you on the right track.

Carol's tip to write everything down that's on your mind is a really good one. Take care and let us know how you get on.

Hi Lottie,

Try your best to work with your diabetes team on ways in which to lower your Hba1c if it is high, they are there to help you and will fully understand that you've been under a lot of stress with school work and revising for exams.

Good luck and hope you do well in your exams :)

you poor hunny......first off it is so unlikely they will put u in hospital so rule thst out

are you testing your blood ?????? you know whats wrong and what needs to be sorted...be honest with your team....prehaps they can go to school and try and sort out a regime there. my daughter is very chaotic with insulin and if you read any of my posts it may help.....don.t forget to ask the school if you can have extra time with your exams...go and see the SEN co ordinator..no shame hunny get what you can

...mean while just going to nag jane if she has taken her insulin yet xxxx

Amber/lottieblot lives in France so her care and school system is different to the UK's

hi hunny....just saying good luck for tomorrow...just a thought but how about writing down all food eaten and drunk for a week....insulin you.re giving and times and go back in a fortnight if not a week.... we got janes hba1c down from 13 to 10 in 17 days watching the carbs......it .ll show you.re willing and something might surprise you.... be good for an update after.....shame more teenagers don.t use this site really

hugs xx

Hello all,

Thank you for your replies. They all helped and some even put a smile on my face.
My appointment went a little better than I expected. I have come to the decision to change doctor.
I'm not blaming the doctor at all just I think it best to try with someone with whom I may be able to comunicate better with.
So I guess it's a new start for me. A fresh breeze that I'm going to try and keep that way.

It is true that I am in the South of France (which does have some good things) but unfortunately not as open as I feel the UK is towards diabetes. This site is full of useful information - especially to people my age - & I think that teenagers should use it to their best advantage.

Anyways, in short : THANK YOU :)
