Daibell said:Hi. First the HBa1c test provides an average blood sugar over the last 2-3 months and is a non-fasting test i.e. it doesn't matter what you eat/drink beofre it. The recent 9.8 reading indicates that the insulin in your body is for whatever reason not bringing your sugar levels down to the 5-6'ish normal range. Normally you would measure 2 hours after a meal. If the 9.8. was at a shorter time it is indeterminate
. Some would call that poor sugar control, some
would say that might be pre-diabetic etc. It all
indicates the need for more recent tests. My diabetes
came on very quickly so it's possible a more up to date HBa1ic would give you a different result from
your previous one?
Thanks for explaining the Hba1c test in more detail, so I'm over the 3 months averaging on 7mmol ? Is this high? Could I bring this down with diet, exercise before it is to late? I have just had my dinner at 5pm, when would be the best time to check my blood sugar?
