I've had diabetes for 3 years now and I'm still getting to grips with trying to find the right insulin and methods for me, I was just wondering if a pump is a good option?

Hi Meg and welcome to the forum.

Which insulins are you using and can you say what you're having trouble with? Have you been on a carb counting course yet?

I can't advise about pumps as I am still on injections (after nearly 43 years) but quite happy with that. I understand that pumps take quite a bit of work, but the members here that have them say they are great. Hopefully some of them will be along soon to tell you more about them.

I too am not on the pump, I don't care so much for one yet, but what I think could benefit everyone is a constant glucose monitor, or something like the Libre.

I think if we all knew what our sugars were doing we could eventually nail them down, or at least figure them out a lot faster.

Maybe look into getting a Libre to start?

Hi, I've been diabetic for 24 years and really struggled to gain good control during teens and early twenties - busy lifestyle, huge amounts of competitive sports and working as a nurse certainly did not help. I'm quite sensitive - everything and I mean everything affects me, I have been using animas vibe pump for nearly 3 years, and the dexcom CGM for nearly 1 - I fund a lot of it myself which I know is not an option for everyone, but the results have been life-saving for me. It is a lot of work, but I think it really works for people who lead hectic unpredictable lifestyles like me. I have found the freedom, flexibility and information my diabetic team can gain from the pump priceless - just don't think it's a easy fix, you really have to understand your insulin sensitivity, carb:insulin ratios etc to make it work. Good luck!

first try to log what you can and take small steps regarding changes you want to try. dont change too many things or you will find it difficult to make sense of. if you want to, post some logs for more advice, good luck!

I might be talking out of turn here, but I was told when I considered the pump about 10 years back that

it really is good for the first six months, but then one can get a bit blase and go off the rails.

Is this no longer the case with things like LIBRE?
