I'm an 17 year old who has been diabetic since I was 9... I really can't control my diabetes to save my life... I never miss a lantus injection but find it really difficult to remember to inject my novorapid and to test, and then it spirals and I get really scared of testing :( I havea dreadful sweet tooth and absolutely no will power when it comes to food... I have a really active lifestyle but I'm terrified of hypoing so eat loads. and also when I do hypo, I'm useless at sitting down and only eating a little bit and waiting for it to come back up, I just stuff myself...

I really really don't know what to do anymore or how to solve my problems, the doctors just keep putting my insulin up and up and up but I think I need to change something else and not just my insulin dosage :(

I'm not stupid and I know I need to change something... I just don't know how or where to go for help :( :( :(

To save your life is why you MUST control your diabetes.
You need to retrain yourself to take your insulin. Surely you can programme a reminder into your mobile phone. ( even I, a granny, can do things like that.)
Alternatively, make yourself a "Supernanny" syle Daily schedule on a big bit of card and pin it up somewhere. Stick a star on when you remember something right Do it for a couple of weeks until it becomes routine. It may seem childish, but would set you a pattern.
Think of the little train in "Dumbo"
And say "Ican, Ican, Ican"
It's all a matter of routines.
E.g. get up, loo, wash/shower, brush teeth, check BG, take lantus, make breakfast, eat, take rapid,go out into the day, ready for whatever comes.

Hi LLP
Sorry you're having such rotten time, diabetes is nae fun and make no mistake about it!

Im a type 1 too but wasnt young when diagnosed so am very lucky in some ways that Ive had good while before I had to change my life. In saying that though it IS hard to do no matter what stage you are at. You are obviously not stupid because you have come here and told us the truth, and that takes a lot of courage

The problem is there is no easy way to do it - you just have to do it.
Start by taking your novorapid. I know it might be easy to forget but given you take it when you eat, everytime you eat should just think NOVORAPID. If you have to, leave notes on the fridge or kitchen, or wherever you eat/cook or maybe ask whoever is making dinner to remind you to take it

As for the sweet tooth - its a bummer because unfortunately sweet things cant be taken regularly if you want to keep good control but if you tell us the kind of things you love then maybe we can suggest replacements for them. Lots of people have a treat now and again but for long term health, we cant really do it on a daily basis (chocolate, cakes, ice cream etc)
Another thing we need to watch is what kind of starchy food we eat -white bread, pasta, MacD burger buns, KFC popcorn chicken, chips, crisps - all bad for blood sugar

However, baby steps hun, start by taking your novorapid. If you eat without taking it you will make yourself ill, short and long term potentially.

Come back and we'll give you some more advice -dont want to bombard you
